Papa-moscas-azul-de-Sulawesi/ Sulawesi blue Flycatcher( Cyornis omissus omissus)

I love this little gang of old world flycatchers!
They are usually colorful and their calm posture while waiting for their small prey, insects in general, is very characteristic.
They live in the middle extract of forests and green areas, solitary, in pairs or accompanying mixed flocks.
It inhabits the islands of Sulawesi, Togian and Selayar in Indonesia.
Its reproduction seems to need more field studies.
This small acrylic illustration depicts the difference between the male and female of the spp, omissus, as this species has other spps, which I will portray later.

A conspicuous Bulbul from the island of Borneo.
Flashy and colorful, it tends to elevate the small crest when excited by something.
His vocalization is little known and the recording above was the best I could find (it's the thinnest voice in the recording) It feeds on fruits and insects that it collects, flitting vividly among the trees.
Known only for this beautiful island, home to amazing species and with the oldest forest on the planet!!!
Their nest was seen once in January and consisted of two small eggs.
In this A4 illustration I portrayed the common coloring of both sexes and an individual, in a small watercolor fed on drooping fruits, typical of their region.

A lion's roar echoes in the lush forests of New Guinea ... lions, in the MAGIC ISLAND of the Birds of Paradise ???
No !!
That is the call of the Northern Cassowary!
A large bird, reaching 150 cm in height, this Cassowary is found in New Guinea and some nearby islet.
All densely forested, through a lush tropical forest, where the previous birds are a true paradise, this impressive bird walks through the forest in search of fruits and insects that make up a base of its diet.
The coloring of the bare parts of the head and neck, where bare skin pendulums divide laterally, are extremely striking colors and the effect of these colors against the dark background of the subsoil where it walks must be fantastic! It walks opening a passage with the "helmet"  in your head.
The inner toe of each foot has an extremely long and sharp nail, which they use in defense, being dangerous even for humans!
Its feathers are like hair and it's wings is rudimentary.
It is not at risk of extinction, although it is hunted for food and other purposes.
The incubation and care of the puppies is done by the father, since a species is polyandrous, that is, the female relates to several males.
In this watercolor and gouache on paper, I will acquire to portray an adult and on detail, the same inside the forest, to try to show the highlight of his colors.

Todus Cubano/Cuban Tody (Todus multicolor)

Active among foliage, always hunting for insects and occasionally fruits and small reptiles, Cuban Tody is endemic to this island, where it is common and seems to be preserved in national parks, such as Bayamesa and Alejandro de Humboldt.

It has a large head appearance, common in all its relatives, in relation to the small body (11cm) and its colors harmonize beautifully, being the most colorful of this family (Todidae). Youngs are more opaque and without red in the throat.

In addition to this large head aspect, it has a long, flat bill.

It makes its burrows nest in holes dug in clay soils, up to 30 cm deep.

It is very adaptable to different environments, from forests to open areas, always flying among the leaves in search of their prey.

Species without sexual dimorphism, with the small blue area on the carpus appearing to be brighter in males.

It has different colors of irises and these colors seem to change during life.

Vocalizes incessantly throughout the day.

In this illustration, I used gouache and transparent watercolor to illustrate an adult and a small watercolor to show it next to a spider's web, where it comes in search of insects and even the web owner !!!

Belonging to the incredible family of Nectariniidae, this beautiful and metallic Sunbird, lives in the mountains of Kenya, Congo, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi.

Found at high altitudes, above 1800 meters, reaching about 3000 meters in Congo, this bird of about 14 cm, (male with tail retrices of about 13 cm) survives in extreme temperature conditions, associated with typical plants from these altitudes, such as Lobelias , Senecios and Proteas, being always seen in the blooms of these species.

Its color is spectacular and it must surely be very remarkable to observe it in its specific environment.

It feeds on nectar, insects and pollen.

It is not an endangered species.

In the display the male raises his tail and beak, spreads his wings, and inflates the scarlet tufts of the flanks.

The female, more earthy, must be impressed with such behavior and the beauty of the male's colors !!!

In this illustration, gouache and watercolors, I portrayed the male, the female and a small composition of a male in a Giant Lobelia, typical of its environment.

Pitta-barulhento/ Noisy Pitta (Pitta versicolor)

Come também algumas frutas.

Inhabitant of the forests of eastern Australia and the magical island of New Guinea, this colorful member of the Pittidae family, walks peacefully on the rainforest floor, feeding on insects, snails and small lizards that it finds in the litter where it looks for its prey. It also eats some fruits.
Its voice is strong and the name is very suggestive of its height!
In this watercolor I portrayed the Noisy Pitta on a rock, in the forest floor where it goes to open mollusks, using it as a support.

Monarca-azul/ Black-naped Monarch (Hypothymis azurea)

A resident of the Malay Peninsula, the Black-caped Monarch attracts attention with its beautiful blue color.
It inhabits the beautiful forests of the region, it seems to prefer the presence of bamboo.
A migrant, he reaches India, China and even Iran.
It feeds on insects. Fly from the landing to catch insects in mid-flight or fly in front of leaves to disturb the insects and get them out of hiding.
On this board I portrayed the couple, who can always be seen together, next to the nest with two newborn chicks.
It was very pleasant to illustrate another species of bird from this magical region of Southeast Asia, of which I am a fan !!!

Gaúcho-chocolate/ Chocolate-Vented Tyrant (Neoxolmis rufiventris)

An inhabitant of Patagonia, this beautiful tyrannid flies north in the winter, reaching the gaucho pampas.
Its color is very striking and its size, something similar to that of a thrush makes it very conspicuous.
It feeds on insects that hunt for soil or in flights like its parents.
its wings are pointed and long which gives it a beautiful silhouette of flight, in addition to the beautiful white pattern on the covers and edges of the primaries! The sides of the tail also have feathers with clear tips.
I tried to illustrate it with watercolors and gouache, representing his typical pose on a cold morning in the Pampas.
