Esta magnífica ave vive nas florestas extensas do Vietnã, Índia, China, Myanmar, Sumatra e Malásia.
Seu grande porte, cerca de 1 metro, faz com que seja impossível não notá-lo enquanto se alimenta nas árvores gigantes de seu ambiente. Alimenta-se também de insetos, pequenos répteis e mamíferos e de outros pássaros.
apesar do bico, não é parente dos nossos tucanos, sendo esse um caso de evolução convergente, onde espécies diferentes ocupam nichos ecológicos iguais e acabam se tornando parecidas.
As cores desse grande Calau é outro atrativo. a fêmea tem o alto do bico menor que o macho.
Esse trabalho foi todo feito em acrílicos.
Procurei representar a fêmea em segundo plano, junto ao oco onde ela constrói o ninho e onde é fechada durante a incubação.

I tried to represent the female in the background, next to the hollow where she builds the nest and where it is closed during incubation.
