-Cuco! Cuco!

O som ecoa forte pelas florestas e campos onde vive nosso tão conhecido Cuco!!

-Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

The sound echoes loudly through the forests and fields where our well-known Cuckoo lives !

Used in clocks that decorate walls around the world, this migratory bird can be found from Europe to other continents, depending on the year, such as Asia and Africa !!!

It feeds on insects, larvae and some fruits. It also feeds on eggs and small baby birds.

Its most impressive feature is that it is a parasite, that is, it lays its eggs in nests of other species so that they hatch and raise their young. Reaching the extreme of females laying eggs with patterns of color and size similar to the species where she will lay the eggs (and probably the same species that raised her)!

The baby cuckoo is born faster and kills or throws its half-siblings out of the nest to have the parents' attention all to themselves.

This behavior exists in other species of the Cuculidae family and in other bird families.

In this A4 size watercolor I represented a singing male (females have a small brownish color on the sides of the neck) in their typical pose and in detail the chick being fed by a Common Reed Warbler.

Raphael Dutrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10883642928005168596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5894443413229697840.post-66466956868020004642020-11-28T14:14:00.007-03:002021-02-25T16:54:05.667-03:00Pitta-barulhento/ Noisy Pitta (Pitta versicolor)

This curious bird has its name in English due to the shape of its beak, which looks like a beautiful blue helmet.
It is the only one of its kind, Euryceros, which belongs to the Vangidae family, almost entirely restricted to Madagascar.
It inhabits the primary forests of the north and northeast of the island, generally below 800 meters.
Difficult to confuse him with any other bird of the region, because its beak is characteristic of only this species.
It measures about 30 cm, the male and the female being of equal coloration.
Monogamous, they reproduce from October to January. The nest made at the bifurcation of a branch about 2 to 4 meters above the ground is home to 2 or 3 pups. According to the IUCN, it is a threatened species due to habitat destruction and its difficulty in adapting to anthropic environments.
It feeds on invertebrates such as insects, crabs, snails and even vertebrates such as chameleons, lizards and also amphibians.
In this illustration I represented an individual of the species amidst the confusion of leaves and branches which are the most common environment of observing them within the forest.
Its beak, hook is of an incredible blue !!
Which gives a beautiful contrast inside the dense forest.
